THE GOOD BIKES

THE GOOD BIKES: this is the title of the public art initiative by Caroline Macfarlane and Vanessa Nicholas. They would like to save rusted bikes from the trash heap and add colour to Toronto’s cityscape.

THE GOOD BIKES: questo è il titolo del progetto di arte pubblica di Caroline Macfarlane e Vanessa Nicholas. L’intento è quello di salvare biciclette arrugginite ed abbandonate e di aggiungere al contempo una nota di colore alla città di Toronto.

Each bike marks a site that embodies the spirit of regeneration and community that inspired them in the first place. Now they’re teaming with the municipal government on a large scale project that will see dozens of variations on the neon bike placed strategically throughout Toronto.

Ogni bicicletta individua i luoghi che incarnano lo spirito di rigenerazione e le comunità che hanno ispirato le due artiste per la prima volta. Adesso stanno collaborando con il Municipio per realizzare un progetto su vasta scala che posizionerà strategicamente dozzine di biciclette tra le vie di Toronto.

THE ORANGE GOOD BIKES mark sites important to emerging artists in Toronto
THE MAGENTA GOOD BIKES mark site of art historical significance in the city
THE ROSE GOOD BIKES mark spots that hold personal significance for a local
THE YELLOW GOOD BIKES signify hots spots in the city where community gathers
THE GREEN GOOD BIKES pay homage to the great Jane Jacobs by marking sites where urban planning efforts have both succeeded and failed
THE BLUE GOOD BIKES celebrate community builders
THE AQUA GOOD BIKES are abandoned bikes that we’ve decided to spruce up a bit
