DAVID GECKELER

David Fabio Geckeler is a young (born in 1984) industrial designer based in Berlin. After graduating, he was accepted for industrial design at the university of applied science Potsdam. He studied then abroad at the the royal danish academy of fine arts in Copenhagen and at the university of arts in Berlin.

David Fabio Geckeler è un giovane (nato nel 1984) industrial designer che risiede a Berlino. Dopo il diploma è stato ammesso al corso di industrial design dell’università di scienze applicate di Potsdam. Ha poi proseguito il suo percorso di studio all’estero, presso la royal danish academy of fine arts di Copenhagen, e alla university of arts di Berlino.

Whatever the object to draw, he always research the traditional technique and tries to start working with the materials as soon as possible.

He also realized that he gives his best when there are parameters or problems to be solved. In fact he says: “It's something between inspiration and problem solving.”

Currently he is working on several projects for international clients and his work will be exhibited on fairs and in galleries.

Qualunque sia l’oggetto che deve disegnare, ricerca sempre la tecnica tradizionale e cerca di iniziare a lavorare con i materiali il prima possibile.

Lavorando ha anche scoperto che il miglior modo per dare il meglio di sé è darsi dei parametri o dei problemi da risolvere; come lui stesso afferma “è una commistione di ispirazione e risoluzione dei problemi”.

Attualmente sta lavorando a vari progetti per clineti internazionali e le sue opere saranno prossimamente esposte in fiere e gallerie.

I would like to focus on three projects.
Mi concentrerò su tre progetti.

 

NERD CHAIR
Two laminated plywood shells slot together to form this simple chair without any metal fixings.
The design won last year’s Muuto Talent Award and has now been put into production.
It combines an impeccable sense of craftsmanship with a strong personality.
Due gusci di compensato laminato sono agganciati assieme per formare questa semplice sedia, priva di giunture metalliche. Il progetto ha vinto l'anno scorso il Talent Award di Muuto e ora è stato messo in produzione. Esso combina un’impeccabile padronanza dell’artigianato, con una forte personalità.

 

FRAGMENT CHAIR
Fragment is a one-piece aluminium sand-casted three-legged chair. The creative expression underlies the concept of keeping the elements of the sand-casting construction attached to a casted seat shell. David says “the aim was to give space to this mainly geometric elements, as well as quoting the aesthetic character of casted metal parts.”
Fragment è una sedia a tre gambe realizzata in un unico pezzo di alluminio pressofuso. L'espressione creativa sottolinea il concetto di mantenere gli elementi pressofusi attaccati ad una scocca anch’essa fusa. David dice "lo scopo è stato quello di dare spazio a questi elementi geometrici, mostrando al tempo stesso il carattere estetico di parti metalliche fuse."

DUSK LAMP

This pendant lamp was created because David wished to work with glass. The result is a lamp that can be changed with a simple gesture from a spot into a room-filling light. A single object supplies a double need: to have both a direct light or indirect.
Questa lampada a sospensione è stata creata perché David voleva confrontarsi con un materiale nuovo: il vetro. Il risultato è una lampada che, con un semplice gesto, si può trasformare da punto-luce a luce diffusa. Si riassume quindi in un unico oggetto una doppia esigenza: avere sia una luce diretta, sia indiretta.
