Ruta del Peregrino |
Each year, two million Mexican residents take part in the Ruta del Peregrino, a 117 km pilgrimage through the mountains range of Jalisco. This religious
voyage has been taking place since the 17th century and represents the
pilgrim’s act of faith carried to penitence. Nine architecture firms collaborated to
build seven architectural landmarks. The Master Plan, designed by Tatiana Bilbao, Derek Dellekamp and
Rozana Montiel, was presented in a special exhibition to resonate with
the Venice Biennale 2012 theme “Common Ground”.

Vessel by O’Donnell + Tuomey |
The word vessel is suggestive of embodiment, enshrinement and
containment. It carries associations with craft and circulation.
Airship, boat, blood, vessel, utensil. Vessel is a contemplative space hollowed out of solid matter, a light
funnel, a lantern chamber, and a passage leading towards our common
ground.

Aires Mateus |
Radix by Portuguese studio Aires Mateus is an arch supported on three points with the fourth
corner hanging over the water, turning the otherwise massive steel
structure into a lightweight balanced volume. The structure combines historical awareness and sensitivity with modern technology: it suggests an approach that promotes continuity instead of seeking novelty.

Alvaro Siza |
Alvaro Siza created the structure, that establishes a relationship with a different aspect of Venice – that of
the dense urban environment. Three faceted walls generate two intimate
spaces in the middle of the garden, a tribute to the compact urban tissue of Venice,
which frames particular views of the exteriors of the Arsenale.

Canada Pavilion |
Canada Pavilion is made of a
wooden landscape, where each participant fitted the projects. The result is an interesting mix between the roughness of the wood,
and the precision you can achieve with the model's material.

Nordic Pavilion |
In celebration of the Nordic Pavilion’s fiftieth anniversary, thirty-two
architects born after 1962 have been invited to present a
model of a conceptual house, reflecting their personal philosophy of
architecture. Nordic architecture, with its simplified form, frugal
use of materials and sensitive treatment of daylight and the natural
setting, embody the basic principles of responsible, sustainable
architecture.
