Street Seats Design Challenge Semi-Finalists

At a special event on February 28, 2013 fourteen experts and design thought leaders gathered at Design Innovation Gallery, along with a few hundred Design Museum Boston members, to choose the 20 Semi-Finalists in Street Seats Design Challenge. 

The innovative designs range in material-use and construction method, and hail from all over the US and as far away as Mexico, Italy, and France. The winning entries were inspired by the rich history of the Fort Point community and the possibilities of Boston’s Innovation District. The semi-finalists receive a grant from Design Museum Boston and the Street Seats sponsors to fabricate their full-scale bench in preparation for the the April 27 Street Seats Opening Celebrations, when the 20 winners will be on view outside along the Fort Point Channel. The semi-finalists will then vie for three finalist cash prizes in April. The challenge continues! Stay tuned as the semi-finalists build their full-scale benches!

All 172 entries are on view at the Design Innovation Gallery at 1/8th their size this is a unique opportunity to see the breadth of creativity from the Challenge.
