GUESS WHO: CHIPPERFIELD OR MORANDI?

 

David Chipperfield designed between 2007 and 2009 a brilliant collection of objects: the table service producted by Alessi.

David Chipperfield ha creato tra il 2007 e il 2009 una stupenda collezione di oggetti: il servizio da tavola prodotto da Alessi.

The name Tonale refers to Giorgio Morandi’s use of colour tonality imbuing his daily objects with a sense of individuality. The project was also inspired by vernacular ceramics from Korea, Japan and China, and conceived as an exercise in refining functional household objects. The result of the sum of these influences is the design of objects that are both sophisticated and frugal.

Come il nome suggerisce, una delle influenze dell’architetto inglese è stato l’impiego delle sfumature cromatiche proprie del pittore bolognese Giorgio Morandi. Un’altra importante influenza è da ricercare nelle ceramiche vernacolari di Paesi orientali come Korea, Giappone e Cina, il cui carattere prettamente funzionale viene qui raffinato. Queste componenti danno luogo a degli oggetti che sono al tempo stesso sofisticati e frugali.

The objects are produced in a variety of materials including earthenware, glass, beech wood and enamelled steel. The service consists of plates of three measures, large bowls, salad bowls, glasses with a large base, mugs, cups, saucers, wooden cutting board, tray and bottled-water jug​​. The color range includes light grey, dark grey, pale yellow, white yellow, white earth, light earth, red earth and dark green.
Molti i materiali impiegati nella collezione: ceramica stoneware, vetro, legno di faggio, acciaio smaltato. Oltre a piatti di tre misure, il servizio si compone di ampie ciotole, insalatiere, bicchieri a base larga, tazze, tazzine, piattini, tagliere in legno, vassoio e bottiglia-brocca per l’acqua. La gamma cromatica va dal grigio chiaro al grigio scuro, attraversa il bianco pallido e le varie sfumature della terra, per giungere fino al verde scuro.
